SINOPSIS:

El Sargento de Policía Howie (Edward Woodward) se desplaza en avioneta desde su comisaría en tierra firme escocesa hasta una remota isla de su jurisdicción para investigar la desaparición de una niña llamada Rowen. El sargento, devoto cristiano, tiene en su trabajo al servicio de la ley y en la fe los pilares de su existencia. Los habitantes de la isla están gobernados por el misterioso Lord Summerisle (Christopher Lee) y son seguidores de la antigua tradición druídica a través de ritos y folklore reintegrados a su forma de vida. A medida que las investigaciones del sargento avanzan, se encuentra con respuestas de ignorancia o información contradictoria, que le exasperan.
